Prostanthera sieberi (Mint Bush)

This theme garden features plants with a distinctive scent or fragrance. Australian native plants often have aromatic oils in their foliage rather than scented flowers. The oil glands are visible on some leaves.

Well known for their aromatic oils are Eucalyptus trees and lemon scented tea-trees (Leptospermum species), with the oils harvested for medicinal purposes. The highly aromatic leaves of Backhousia citriodora (Lemon Scented Myrtle) are also used in cooking.

Other plant families known for their strong scent include Prostantheras (Mintbushes) and Boronias. Grow scented plants near paths in your garden to release the fragrance as people brush past them.
