Plant:              Tufted, clump-forming, spreading sedge up to 2.5m high.

Flowers:         Brown to dark grey-brown spikelets 4-6mm long in an erect or spreading branched inflorescence 50-125cm long on stout stems (culms) 80-200cm high

Flowering:      Throughout the year.

Fruit:               Shiny, orange to red, ovoid nut, 3mm long.

Leaves:          In basal tufts, strap-like 1-2m long with sharp scabrous margins. The leaves are as long as the flowering stems. The branches are subtended by leafy bracts.  Both sides of the leaves are green.

Habitat:           Creek banks and marshy areas in shady forest.

Features:       Growing in damp areas. Mature fruit orange-red. Leaves as long as the flowering stems. Long, floppy stems. Both sides of the leaves are green.
