Plant:              Long trailing or climbing herb with stems 1-2m long.

Flowers:         Pinkish-mauve, bell-shaped to funnel-shaped solitary flowers 3-5cm long with 2 distinct bracts at the base of the sepals.

Flowering:      September-January.

Fruit:               Ovoid capsule 12-15mm long.

Leaves:          Alternate, round to kidney-shaped 1.5-4cm long and 2-6cm wide, thick and fleshy on long stalks.

Habitat:           In sandy and rocky coastal areas.

Features:       Pinkish-mauve funnel-shaped flowers and heart-shaped leaves.

Name:

Calystegia      From Greek = cup-covering (referring to the 2 bracteoles that enclose the calyx).

soldanella      After the genus Soldanella that has similar flowers (also soldanella in Italian = little-sultan).
