Family:            Adiantaceae

Plant:              A fern up to 50cm high and growing in clumps.

Fronds:           Numerous erect or semi-erect pale to dark green fronds 15-50cm long with tiny white hairs. The fronds are pinnate with a stout black stem.

Sori:                In groups of 6-14 arranged in deep notches on outer margins of frond lobes.

Rhizome:          Short, creeping, much-branched and deeply buried.

Habitat:           Shady areas in rainforest margins and wet sclerophyll forest – often found in rock crevices.

Features:       Sori arrangement. Young growth a delicate pink.

Name:

Adiantum       From Greek = not too wet.

hispidulum    From Latin hispidus = rough or bristly plus the diminutive ulus (referring to its finely hairy fronds).
