Plant:              A shrub up to 1.5m high with hairless branches.

Flowers:         In terminal clusters of 2cm diameter white, spreading, 5-petalled flowers. The clusters usually have 1 female flower with 3 to 6 male flowers. The male flowers have yellow anthers and numerous stamens with their filaments united to form a column. The female flowers have 3 styles.

Flowering:      July-November.

Fruit:               Spiny, greenish-pink globular capsule, 12mm diameter.

Leaves:          Alternate, linear 1-4cm long and 1-3mm wide, pine-like, soft, erect and with recurved margins.

Habitat:           Dry sclerophyll forest and heathland.

Features:       Pine-like leaves. White spreading 5-petalled flowers.

Name:

Ricinocarpos From Latin ricinus = castor oil seed and Greek carpon = a fruit (referring to its fruit that resemble those of the Castor Oil plant).

pinifolius        From Latin pinus = pine-or fir tree and folius = leaf (referring to its leaves being similar to pine needles).
