Family:            Ericaceae

Plant:              An erect shrub up to 1m high.

Flowers:         Axillary clusters near ends of erect stems of pink, tubular flowers with star-like lobes, 5 petals, 5 sepals and 5 stamens.

Flowering:      July-October.

Fruit:               Capsule 1-8mm diameter.

Leaves:          Ovate to lanceolate, tapering to a sharp tip and stem clasping with parallel veins, up to 2cm long and 2-6mm wide. The sheathing at the leaf bases completely encircles the stems.

Habitat:           In damp areas in heathland.

Features:       Sharp stem-clasping leaves. Pink flowers clustered at ends of stems.

incarnata        From Latin in = into, caro = flesh and atus = like (referring to its pink flowers).
