Blechnum ambiguum

 

Family:            Blechnaceae

Plant:              A fern with semi-erect or pendant fronds up to 50cm long.

Fronds:           Pinnate with the pinnae 6-10cm long and 1.5-2.5cm wide. The fertile fronds are narrower than the infertile fronds. The fronds are pale green with pinkish new growth.

Sori:                Linear in 2 rows on either side of the mid-vein of the frond.

Rhizome:          Erect, sometimes creeping, forming a short trunk and covered with reddish-brown scales.

Habitat:           Widespread in wet areas in sclerophyll forest on wet rocks and in gullies, but most frequently found in caves and under rock overhangs.

Features:       Sori arrangement. Light green fronds. Pinkish new growth. Fertile fronds narrower than the infertile fronds.

Name:

Blechnum      From the Greek name for a type of fern.

ambiguum     From Latin ambiguus = uncertain.
