Family:            Fabaceae-Mimosoideae 

Plant:              A prickly shrub up to 2m high.

Flower:           Globular cream or pale yellow flower heads, solitary on a slender stalk.

Flowering:      June-September.

Fruit:               Curved, flat pod 2-6cm long and up to 5mm wide.

Leaves:          Needle-like, short, stiff phyllodes 8-14mm long, broader at the base and sharply pointed. Glands usually absent but sometimes there is 1 small gland on margin of phyllode.

Habitat:           Dry sclerophyll forest and heathland on dry sandy soils.

Features:       Short, stiff, prickly needle-like phyllodes.

Name:

Acacia            From Greek akis = a sharp point because of the thorns on Acacia arabica, a species known from antiquity.

ulicifolia         From its leaves being similar to those of the Ulex, the prickly European Gorse.
