Woollsia pungens

Woollsia or Snow Wreath

Family:            Ericaceae

Plant:              An erect shrub up to 1m high.

Flowers:         White to pink, tubular, with 5 broad, finely-corrugated lobes 13mm across. The 1cm diameter flowers are fragrant and borne in dense clusters on the upper parts of stems.

Flowering:      Mainly May-September.

Fruit:               Capsule 2.5mm diameter and 2mm long.

Leaves:          Alternate, ovate 3-12mm long and 2-6mm wide pointed leaves with a sharp tip and parallel veins. The leaves are horizontal or reflexed and dense on erect stems.

Habitat:           In sheltered damp locations in dry sclerophyll forest, heathland and coastal dunes.

Features:       Fragrant tubular flowers with 5 overlapping petals. Parallel veins on leaves.
