Family:            Orchidaceae

Plant:              A terrestrial orchid up to 25cm high forming large colonies.

Flowers:         Green and red-brown, irregular, hooded flower, solitary on flowering stem.

Flowering:      August-September.

Fruit:               A green capsule that turns brown with age

Leaves:          Basal rosette of 2-6 blunt-tipped ovate to oblong fleshy leaves 2-6cm long and 6-18mm wide.

Habitat:           In ferny gullies in both wet- and dry-sclerophyll forest.

Features:       Hooded green and red-brown flower on single stem. Basal rosette of leaves.

Name:

Pterostylis     From Greek pteron = wing and stylos = style (referring to its winged column)

pedunculata   From Latin pedunculus = little foot (i.e. a stalk) and atus – like (referring the stalk (peduncle) of its flower)
