Family:            Orchidaceae

Plant:              A common terrestrial orchid 10-30cm high forming large colonies.

Flowers:         Solitary flowers that are green with translucent stripes, hooded and nodding. The hood is bent downwards and the tip is often recurved, with the lateral sepals pointing forward.

Flowering:      June-September.

Fruit:               A green capsule that turns brown with age

Leaves:          A basal rosette of 3-6 blunt-tipped ovate to oblong leaves 2-6cm long and 2cm wide, with wavy margins.

Habitat:           In leaf-litter in sheltered damp locations in dry sclerophyll forest.

Features:       A solitary green, nodding, hooded flower. Basal rosette of leaves.

Name:

Pterostylis     From Greek pteron = wing and stylos = style (referring to its winged column).

nutans            From Latin nutans = nodding (referring to its nodding habit).
