Plant:              An erect herb up to 50cm high with 1 or 2 basal leaves.

Flowers:         White, 6-petalled star-like flowers with reddish ovaries and purple anthers in terminal clusters on slender erect stalks.

Flowering:      September-November.

Fruit:               3-winged greenish-pink capsule 1-1.5cm long.

Leaves:          A few grass like basal leaves up to 60cm long.

Habitat:           Common in damp areas in heathland.

Features:       White star-like flowers on slender erect stalks.

umbellata       From Latin umbella = a small shadow (i.e. an umbrella) and atus = like (referring to its  umbel of flowers).
