Family:            Proteaceae

Plant:              An erect open shrub or small tree up to 3m high black flaky bark.

Flowers:         Yellow and hairy, tubular in bud with 4 petals curling backwards when open. The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, 1-1.5cm long, subtended by leaves or scale-like leaves and are held erect on stalks 3-8mm long.

Flowering:      December-June.

Fruit:               Green, ovoid drupe about 1.5cm diameter turning purple when ripe.

Leaves:          Dark green, flat, linear, 2-8cm long and 1-6mm wide, with a softly pointed tip and crowded along the stem.

Habitat:           Dry sclerophyll forest

Features:       Black flaky bark. Narrow dark green leaves. Yellow flowers with backward-curling petals.

linearis           From Latin = linear (referring to its leaves).
