Plant:                   A shrub or small tree up to 5m high.

Flowers:            Cream 5-lobed ovoid flowers in clusters on old wood. The buds have rusty hairs.

Flowering:      August-November.

Fruit:                    Blue to mauve globular drupe 5-7mm diameter.

Leaves:             Alternate, elliptic to oblanceolate 4-12cm long and 2-4cm wide. The margins of the mature leaves are always entire and wavy, but those of the young leaves are sometimes toothed. The leaves are glossy above and dull on the underside. The new stems have rusty hairs.

Habitat:              Rainforest margins and wet sclerophyll forest.

Features:       Flowers clustered on old wood. Rusty hairs on the buds and new stems. Blue to mauve fruit. Adult leaves are glossy and have wavy margins.

Name:

Rapanea         From the South American native name for the original plant collected of this species.

howittiana      After the explorer and naturalist Alfred William Howitt.
