Family:            Doryathaceae

Plant:              A giant tufted plant to 4m high.

Flowers:         Large compact dark red clusters, 40-60cm wide on top of long erect stems to 4m high.

Flowering:      August-November.

Fruit:               A dry ovoid capsule 7-10cm long and red-brown at maturity. Each capsule contains numerous winged reddish-brown seeds.

Leaves:       Linear up to 2.5m long and 10cm wide forming a giant basal rosette.

Habitat:           In rocky, open areas in dry sclerophyll forest – especially on slopes near creek lines.

Features:       Large red inflorescence on tall, erect stem. Large clump of strap-like glossy green basal leaves.
