Callistemon linearis

Narrow-leaved Bottlebrush

Family:            Myrtaceae

Plant:              A stiff, spreading shrub up to 2m high.

Flowers:         Pale red bottlebrush flowers 5-10cm long and about 5cm diameter comprised of masses of free stamens.

Flowering:      October-December.

Fruit:               Globular woody capsule 7mm diameter with a small opening. Capsule crowded into cylindrical clusters around woody stems.

Leaves:          Stiff, rough, sharply pointed, very narrow linear leaf 4-10cm long and 1-3mm wide, with a conspicuous channel on the upper surface, raised oil dots and thickened margins.

Habitat:           Wet sandy heathland and dry sclerophyll forest along creeks.

Features:       Very narrow leaf with thickened margins. Aromatic leaves. Pale red flower spikes.

Name:

Callistemon   From Greek kallistos = very-beautiful.

linearis           From Latin linea = straight (referring to its linear leaves).
