Plant:              Spreading mat-forming scrambling plant up to 40cm high.

Flowers:         Spreading fan-shaped flowers with 5 equal mauve to blue petals and a yellow centre.

Flowering:      Mainly November-May.

Fruit:               Globose purple and white berry up to 12mm diameter.

Leaves:          Obovate to spoon-shaped, alternate, fleshy and up to 8cm long.

Habitat:           Dunes near the sea.

Features:       Common plant on dunes and sea cliffs. Fleshy leaves. Spreading blue to mauve fan-shaped flowers.

Name:

Scaevola        From Latin = left and after left-handed Roman hero Caius Mucius Scaevola (referring to its hand-shaped flower).

calendulacea             From the plant being like the South African Calendula.
