Plant:              A small, erect shrub up to 1-2m high.

Flowers:         Pinkish-mauve to violet pea flower in axillary racemes 9-15cm long.

Flowering:      August-September.

Fruit:               Cylindrical pod, 2-4cm long.

Leaves:          Soft, dull, grey-green pinnate leaves, 4-10cm long, with oblong to elliptic leaflets, 1-4cm long and 5-9mm wide – usually with 11-25 leaflets.

Habitat:           Widespread in both wet- and dry-sclerophyll forest.

Features:       Long spray of mauve to purple pea flowers.  Soft pinnate leaves.

Name:            

Indigofera       from Latin = indigo-bearing (referring one of its genus, Indigofera tinctoria, being the source of indigo dye)

australis         From Latin = southern
