Family:            Asteraceae

Plant:              An erect herb up to 50cm high.

Flowers:         Golden yellow, solitary terminal head of flowers about 3cm diameter, papery and surrounded by numerous outer bracts.

Flowering:      October-March.

Fruit:               Oblong 4-angled achene about 3mm long.

Leaves:          Alternate, up to 10cm long and up to 2cm wide, lanceolate, covered in hairs and stem-clasping.

Habitat:       Open sheltered woodland, heathland and coastal dunes.

Features:       Golden yellow papery daisy-like flowers. Soft, stem-clasping hairy leaves.

Name:

Xerochrysum From Greek xero = dry and chrysos = gold (referring to its flowers).

bracteatum    From Latin bractea = a thin plate and atus = like (referring to the bracts surrounding its flower head).
