Plant:              A slender, erect shrub up to 2m high.

Flowers:         Up to 250 bright crimson, tubular flowers with prominent up-curved styles are borne in a densely packed 15cm diameter terminal flower head surrounded by a conspicuous ring of bright red bracts.

Flowering:      September-October.

Fruit:               Clusters of woody boat-shaped green to brown follicles 8-15cm long.

Leaves:          Narrow obovate or spathulate up to 20cm long and 2-6cm wide, alternate, stiff and leathery with toothed margins.

Habitat:           Usually found in rocky places in dry sclerophyll forest.

Features:       Spectacular flower head. Leathery toothed leaves.

Telopea          From Greek = seen from afar.

speciosissima  

                        From Latin speciosus = beautiful and issimus = most (referring to its flowers).
