Plant:              A prickly spreading shrub up to 1.5m high.

Flowers:         Masses of small white irregular flowers with a prominent projecting style borne in axillary clusters of about 6 flowers.

Flowering:      September-February

Fruit:               Brownish-grey dagger-shaped woody follicle, 2-3cm long, 6-8mm wide, and tapering to a long pointed beak.

Leaves:          Crowded needle-like 1-7cm long and 2mm wide with a sharply-pointed tip.

Habitat:           Common in damp areas in heathland.
