Plant:              An erect sedge up to 1m high with 2mm diameter cylindrical flowering stems.

Flowers:         A reddish-brown with a dense globose or hemispherical head 1-2cm diameter borne near the top of the stem.

Flowering:      October-February.

Fruit:               Smooth, glossy, dark brown to black nut 1mm long.

Leaves:          Leaves reduced to orange-brown sheaths at the base of the stems.

Habitat:           Common in moist soil near the seashore.

Features:       Dense globose head near the top of a cylindrical stem. Leaves reduced to reddish-brown sheaths.

nodosa           From Latin = nobby (referring to its flower heads)
