Eucalyptus obstans

Family:            Myrtaceae

Plant:              A mallee up to 4m high. The bark is smooth and grey to green, shedding in ribbons.

Buds:              Club-shaped, 7-10mm long and 5-7mm diameter in stalked short clusters.

Flowers:         Massed cream stamens surrounding a smooth disc, in terminal panicles.

Flowering:      August-December.

Fruit:               Urn-shaped or cylindrical capsule, 8-11mm diameter and 8-12mm long. The disc is depressed and the valves are enclosed.

Leaves:          Broad lanceolate to ovate, 6-10cm long, 15-25mm wide. Thick and leathery, shiny both sides and with a hard pointed tip. The veins are at 30 degrees to the mid-vein.

Habitat:        Normally found in poorly drained heathland

Features:       Mallee habit. Shiny, thick, leathery leaves. Smooth bark. Urn-shaped fruit. Erect yellow stalks.
