Family:            Apiaceae 

Plant:              An erect daisy-like herb up to 90cm high covered in soft white woolly hairs. It sometimes grows in large colonies.

Flowers:         Tiny creamy flowers clustered into a central flower head, surrounded by approximately 10 velvety white bracts with green tips. The flowers are 4-7cm diameter.

Flowering:      September-December.

Fruit:               Ovate 3-5mm long and 2-3mm wide and covered in long silky hairs.

Leaves:          Grey-green, soft and woolly up to 5cm long. They are deeply divided into linear blunt segments.

Habitat:           Coastal heathland and dry sclerophyll forest on disturbed and sandy soils.

Features:       Soft grey-green, hairy foliage. Large velvety cream daisy-like flowers.

Actinotus       From Greek = having-rays (referring to its flowers)..

helianthi         From Greek = sun-flower.
