Prickly Rasp Fern or Rasp Fern

Family:            Blechnaceae

Plant:              A common fern with fronds to 45cm long.

Frond:             Semi-erect or weeping up to 20-45cm long, pinnate with segments 6cm long. Harsh, leathery and rough to touch. Young fronds pink.

Sori:                Variable – usually circular but can be elongated in 1-2 rows on each side of segment mid-vein.

Rhizome:        Short and tufted.

Habitat:           In shady locations on moist creek banks or in exposed rock crevices in rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest.

Features:       Rough mature fronds. Soft pink new growth.
